Our Favorite Green Smoothie Recipes

Recently, Daniel hit a phase where he won't eat veggies anymore. Won't even touch them unless they are heavily disguised by fruit. Anyone else have a 1 1/2 year old with this issue?

He will drink smoothies though, and I have found that we all love our veggies a bit disguised in a smoothie (even my husband!) Daniel also loves the blender and will pretty much eat anything that comes out of it.

I tend to adopt the "throw it all in" approach when it comes to smoothies, but I do have a few basic recipes that we all absolutely love. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Spinach + Kale Cubes for Smoothies

These frozen cubes are a go-to item for all our smoothies. You can fit much more greens into a blender this way. I tend to forget to use my fresh greens before they go bad, so this is an excellent way to reduce food waste as well!

1 bunch of fresh kale or spinach greens
Blender
1-3 Tbsp filtered water
Ice cube tray (we love this one!)

Throughly rinse your greens to remove any dirt. Pulse greens with water until broken down. Blend into a puree. Depending on how well your blender can process greens, you may need to add more water. Pour into your ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen I toss these in a ziplock bag and label them with the date. They'll keep for up to 6 months.

Tropical Greens Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
2-3 frozen spinach or kale cubes
1/2 cup fresh or frozen pineapple
1/2 cup fresh or frozen mango
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt or coconut yogurt
2 Tbsp chia seeds

Layer ingredients in your blender with dry/frozen ingredients closest to the blades and fresh/liquids on top. This will actually help your blender out a lot! Blend until smooth and enjoy! Serves 2-4 depending on how much your toddler drinks. ;)

Apple Berry Avocado Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 cup apple juice
1/2 - 1 whole avocado, depending on how much you want
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
2-3 frozen spinach or kale cubes
2 Tbsp chia seeds

Layer ingredients in your blender with dry/frozen ingredients closest to the blades and fresh/liquids on top. This will actually help your blender out a lot! Blend until smooth and enjoy! Serves 2-4 depending on how much your toddler drinks. ;)
